The Fenwick

An 1880s boat store on the Balmain East waterfront

The Fenwick logo

The Fenwick occupies an 1880s stone building on the Balmain East waterfront, put up as the J. Fenwick & Co Boat Store. The sandstone and the timber beams are still there, and the view runs from Barangaroo across to the Harbour Bridge.

Downstairs is the dining room. Upstairs is The Fenwick Gallery, which hangs a rotating program of exhibitions, so dinner and an exhibition happen in the same visit.

Breakfast is Saturday and Sunday, 8 to 10, walk-in only — the reward for a cold morning walk along the foreshore. Lunch is every day, midday to 3. Dinner runs Monday to Thursday, 5.30 to 9, Friday and Saturday, 6 to 9, and Sunday, 6 to 8. The takeaway window is open 8 to 12 on weekdays and 8 to 4 at weekends.

Parking is scarce; the ferry is the better way to arrive.

Getting here

The Fenwick is at 2–8 Weston Street, Balmain East, a few steps from the East Balmain ferry wharf, with bus stops nearby. On-street parking is very limited, so a ferry, bus, taxi or rideshare is the easier arrival.

If you do drive, allow extra time to find a spot. The staff will happily call you a taxi from the door, at no cost.

Accessibility

A lift serves the ground-floor dining spaces, and the building is wheelchair accessible.
