The James is on the corner of Kent Street at Millers Point, inside The Langham, a short walk from Barangaroo and the harbour. The room is dark, warm and quietly theatrical — it has presence as well as polish.
The cooking starts from British classics and works them through a contemporary Australian lens, led by a kitchen with European training. The Beef Wellington has to be pre-ordered; there are only so many. The wine list balances international benchmarks against Australian growers.
Service is the sort that keeps a table going. It is a lunch room and a dinner room in equal measure.

Groups of 10 to 25 choose between the Classic and Premium set menus. Menus can change without notice. A 10% gratuity is added to the bill, and a 10% surcharge applies on Saturdays and Sundays.

The James seats 114 when the whole dining room is taken. The north section seats 54 and the south section 40 as semi-private areas, and the private dining room seats 20.
Getting here
The James sits in Millers Point, a few minutes' walk from Barangaroo and the water. Wynyard station is a ten to twelve minute walk, and Milsons Point is reachable across the Harbour Bridge walkway. Buses are frequent along Kent Street and through the city centre.
Street parking around Millers Point and Walsh Bay is limited and time-restricted. There are two Wilson car parks nearby.
